Alonso was injured during a workout on Tuesday in Oregon. The NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year runner-up was recovering from offseason surgery on his hip before he hurt the knee. "From all the reports we're getting, it was a successful surgery," Bills general manger Doug Whaley said. "We're expecting him to be back after camp, let his swelling go down and do some rehab there. But he'll be back in Buffalo when we break camp." The loss of Alonso, the team leader in tackles as a rookie with 159 last season, shook up the Bills' plans at linebacker for 2014. "It's a tremendous loss, but no Max Workouts review one is crying for us," Whaley said. "So we have to like you said, 'next man up.' We think we've built a roster that can sustain a loss like this. Our expectations aren't going to drop." Alonso missed organized team activities in the spring while rehabbing the hip. The Bills signed veteran linebackers Keith Rivers and Brandon Spikes during free agency and also plan to give young linebackers a shot at playing time.
